WEEKLY MESSAGE – October 6th – Fr. Cederberg

When was the last time you looked at your hands? I mean, really looked at them. I notice that mine have changed over the years. They look a bit weathered. There are some spots that didn’t used to be there. There’s a scar where I slashed my thumb with a sharp knife while cutting a pineapple for my newlywed wife. And there’s a wedding ring that I don’t think I could get off. What is most amazing about these hands, however, is that God wants to use them. What an amazing idea. The infinite God of the universe wants to use my hands, your hands, to do his work in the world. As Mother Theresa said, “he has no hands but ours.” Perhaps it’s a good thing to slow down, take a good look at our hands, and offer them up to God, inviting him to use them however he’d like. Sounds like an invitation to adventure to me.

WEEKLY MESSAGE – September 29, 2023

WEEKLY MESSAGE – October 1st – Fr. Cederberg
This Sunday is a celebration of the ministry for children, both for the Day School and for Sunday school, here at St. David’s. When I think back to my own childhood, I am grateful for the warm memories I have of children’s ministry that have left a deep imprint on me. I remember Bible stories, songs, and the faces of other kids in my classes. In particular I have one memory of a sweet elderly woman who held me in the nursery, reading me books about Jesus. These are memories that I hold dear, and that formed me. So I am happy to do whatever I can to make church an interesting and safe place for kids. Kids need to be welcomed, loved, and taught the good news of Jesus. There may well be little else that we can do that has such a powerful effect on their future.

WEEKLY MESSAGE – September 22, 2023

WEEKLY MESSAGE – September 22nd – Fr. Cederberg

I can’t believe it. I just looked at my calendar and saw that this Saturday is the first day of fall! Incredible! In so many ways I don’t feel ready for the changes that the fall brings.

Generally, I have to say, I don’t like change. I like having a routine that is predictable and stable. Yet, change seems to happen whether I like it or not, or whether it has my permission or not. Ironically, change is one of the unchanging principles of life.

I am pleased to be with you all during this season of change. In my retirement it feels good to be part of a worshipping community again. And it is comforting to know that, in this world of change, we worship a Creator who does not. Throughout the seasons, in times of celebration and heartache, good and bad, his love remains constant and ever fresh. He is passionately in love with us and gives us the courage to face new times with boldness and creativity. We know, whatever the circumstances tell us, that we are secure in his hands, and empowered to move into a new day.

So, let’s celebrate and stretch ourselves. Who knows? In the process we might even have fun!
