WEEKLY MESSAGE – November 3, 2024

WEEKLY MESSAGE – November 3rd  – The Right Reverend Peter Eaton

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,
As we approach the election, we do so knowing that our Anglican tradition calls us to faithful and responsible citizenship.  Our tradition expects us to vote in accordance with our assessment of the issues before the body politic and in accordance with our conscience.  In this spirit, it is my earnest hope that every member of our diocese who is entitled to vote will do so.  This is a duty, not a luxury or a choice.

This election comes at a time of great importance for our nation and for the world.  As we cast our votes, I encourage you to reflect prayerfully on the issues before us and to seek the inspiration of God’s sustaining Spirit in making decisions that are formed by our commitment as Episcopalians to reach for the good, to seek and serve Christ in all persons, and to strive for justice and peace among all people and to respect the dignity of every human being.

In this spirit of prayerful discernment, we are invited to join Election Night Virtual Prayers on Tuesday, 5 November, from 8 to 10 p.m. ET, hosted by The Episcopal Church Office of Government Relations. This is an opportunity for us to gather with our fellow Episcopalians from across the Church, and to pray for our nation amid the choices and challenges that we face. Our Presiding Bishop will offer an opening reflection and prayer.
You can participate in the event by registering for Zoom or joining via the Facebook livestream. For those who would like simultaneous Spanish interpretation, please be sure to register for Zoom.
