WEEKLY MESSAGE – October 18th – Bishop McGregor

Take Things One Step At A Time
As many of you know, I wasn’t in church this past Sunday. Last weekend, Patsy and I spent five days in South Bend, Indiana, where we attended the Inspired Leadership Initiative program alumni gathering at the University of Notre Dame. Every year, alumni come together to attend lectures, discuss issues, meet new graduates, reconnect with friends, and enjoy an Irish football game. The events are stimulating, encouraging, and filled with joy.
I’m glad we went, especially since we almost didn’t because of the hurricane and tornadoes. Patsy and I struggled to decide whether to go, given all that was happening in our lives last week. The Weather Channel was issuing warnings about impending disasters, with conflicting updates about the storm’s path. We had to consider everything that needed to come together: If we stayed, what would we need? What supplies would we need to survive without electricity? We also thought about safety and security—what about our belongings outside? Our windows? Our home? What should we do with the food in our refrigerator?
On the other hand, if we decided to leave, what steps would we need to take? Would flights still be running? Could we even find an Uber to the airport? And what about Patsy’s mom, who lives nearby? We felt overwhelmed by all these decisions and stressors.
One of the best decisions we made was to tackle everything in smaller chunks. First, we prioritized our tasks and then divided them up, addressing them one at a time. Once we did that, it didn’t seem as overwhelming. It allowed us to achieve smaller victories along the way.
I think our parish can be a bit like this. Sometimes, we may feel overwhelmed by our responsibilities as stewards of God’s creation and the body of Christ—whether it’s maintenance, finances, skill sets, projects, ministries, events, or people. It can be helpful to prioritize, divide tasks, and take things one step at a time, celebrating our progress along the way.

WEEKLY MESSAGE – October 13, 2024

WEEKLY MESSAGE – October 13th – Bishop McGregor

What a week?

This has to be one of the most nerve racking weeks I have had in sometime as we prepared for hurricane Milton. On the one hand, we were able to prepare our home with safety and security. We were able to put up the hurricane shutters once someone taught me how to do it correctly. We were able to make preparations for water, batteries, food and etc.
But what I underestimated was the emotional rollercoaster of my mind. The uncertainty of the forecast and direction of Milton changing every five hours. The unexpected impact and devastation of the tornadoes in our areas. Then Patsy and I were divided over the decision as to whether we would keep our plans and head to the Inspired Leadership Initiative alumni gathering at the University of Notre Dame.
This week has been very stressful and life is like this. The question is how can we return to joy after being filled with anxiety and fear? For me, it helps to pray and spend time with Jesus….to quiet myself….to go for a walk…..to be thankful under all circumstances….and to share my emotions with others.
I am grateful for our caring community at St. David’s. May we recover well from these emotionally trying times as we support and pray for one another.  For those who would like special prayers, please come to our Tuesday morning Eucharist at 8:30 am.
Serving Christ Together
Bishop Todd

WEEKLY MESSAGE – September 27th – Bishop McGregor

Be Brave and Vote!
Your vote does matter. Why? Because it matters to others and it matters to you. It’s one of the choices and freedoms that we have in a democracy. Our vote represents me and my values.
John Quincy Adams, 6th President of the United States of America said it this way: “Always vote for principle, though you may vote alone, and you may cherish the sweetest reflection that your vote is never lost.”
Don’t forget to plan to vote for this upcoming election.
Please continue to pray for peace, reconciliation and love for our citizens before, during and after our elections.
