WEEKLY MESSAGE – August 11, 2024

WEEKLY MESSAGE – August 11th  – Bishop McGregor

With the Olympics on TV every day for 16 days, we are able to hear stories about the athletes competing. Many of them are very interesting and fascinating to learn about their particular circumstances. Two athletes for the USA women’s gymnastics fascinated me by having the same story theme. Simone Biles and Suni Lee both saw redemption in their Olympic comeback. Simone had to pull out of the last Olympic completion in 2021 because she had the “twisties.” And former 2021gold medalist for the Individual All Around, Suni Lee was diagnosed last year with a rare kidney disease.
Both of these amazing women had huge personal medical obstacles to overcome. Neither one of them planned for adverse medical conditions. But at some point they chose to fight through difficult circumstances in order to be redeemed. Seeing them win Olympic medals brought tears to my eyes.
As Christians, we are reminded of the central story of redemption. Through Jesus’ personal suffering he endured on the cross for our redemption. His redemption story is about love, mercy and grace being extended to each one of us. Isn’t this nice to know? We are valued by God and have been redeemed by His grace and love.
