WEEKLY MESSAGE – July 21st – Bishop McGregor

We are Beloved

I was in shock last Saturday when I received a telephone call from my wife that former President Trump had been shot. I immediately left my final preparation for my sermon and went downstairs to turn on the TV to see what had happened. The shock was more a matter of disbelief. How in the world could this happen? Was it a prank by some kid?
Once I turned on the TV, I saw the video clip of it happening, and became memorized and numb. Watching it over and over again, I thought, could this really be happening here in the USA? Violence, hatred and division is becoming common place. And yet we are known as a country which prides itself in freedom, liberty and justice – for all.
As Christians we are to do good and love our neighbor, as ourselves. We are to take a stand against violence, hatred and division. I want to echo the words of our Presiding Bishop Michael Curry who said, “The way of love — not the way of violence — is the way we bind up our nation’s wounds…..We decry political violence in any form, and our call as followers of Jesus of Nazareth is always to love.”
At St David’s, let us pray for the families of those who were killed, injured and impacted by the political rally. Let us pray for Donald Trump and Joe Biden and their families and all the political leaders of our country. Let us pray that we, as a church, may see one another as beloved children of God.”
