WEEKLY RECTOR’S MESSAGE – June 5th – Fr. Thomas
Some of you know that I’m a tennis player. I haven’t set any records, but one match a few years ago might be close! I was playing doubles, and at one point in a game in which I was serving I reached twenty seven deuces; yes, 27 in one game! (For our non-tennis friends, a deuce is a tie score.)
There are times in our lives when we need to “Get it done,” i.e., finish the job, so to speak. Well, all I can say, it was not for lack of trying to win the game but we were up against some strong opponents. This Sunday is the feast of Pentecost, when we celebrate the work of the Holy Spirit in our Church and in our life. So the question God asks us is, “When are we going to move on in our discipleship to do what needs to be done to win over more disciples to the Gospel of Christ? What’s holding us back from advancing to the “finish line” of faith? Anybody can start the race, but they don’t give out the awards until you finish. Maybe we cannot change circumstances or other people; but if you don’t like the way your life looks, try changing the way you look at life, because the will of God will not take you where the grace of God will not protect you.
