WEEKLY RECTOR’S MESSAGE – May 29th – Fr. Thomas

Then Jesus took his disciples up the mountain, and gathering them around him, he taught them saying: “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven, Blessed are the meek, Blessed are those who mourn, Blessed are the merciful, Blessed are those that thirst for justice, Blessed are those who are persecuted, Blessed are those who suffer, be glad and rejoice for your reward is great in heaven.”

Then Simon Peter said, “Are we supposed to know this?” And Andrew said, “Do we have to write this down?” James said, “Will we have a test on this?” Philip said, “I don’t have any paper.” Bartholomew said, “Do we have to turn this in?” John said, “The other disciples didn’t have to learn this!” And Matthew said, “May I go to the bathroom?” And Judas said, “What does this have to do with real life?” Then one of the Pharisees who was present asked to see Jesus’ lesson plan and inquired, “Where is your anticipatory set, and what are your objectives in the cognitive domain?”. . .and Jesus wept.

As we come to the end of another school year, let’s give a big shout out to all teachers, particularly those who sometimes seem “up against it”, and give thanks for those who have taught us the faith over the years. And remember; the longest journey we’ll sometimes take is from the head to the heart, because what we are is God’s gift to us; and what we become is our gift to God.
